W.G.A. Helping Haiti

This year’s theme is “The Gift of Giving.”  The Women’s Golf Association devoted their season closing event to Helping Haiti. The Women’s Golf Association (WGA) partnered with Food For The Poor, the largest international relief organization in the United States. Disaster relief supplies were generously donated by Boca Woods Members and then shipped to Haiti to aid in earthquake recovery.

Boca Woods’s Executive Chef Dominick Laudia, teaches at West Boca High’s Culinary Arts Academy.  One of his students, Paige DeSimone, is one of four students from Florida, Georgia and North Carolina who will face-off in the American Culinary Federations’s Southeast Region Student Chef of the Year Competition.

Collegiate Golf at Boca Woods Country Club

 

Lynn University Women's Golf Team

Boca Woods recently hosted the Lynn University v. Harvard women’s golf match (Lynn 326, Harvard 298).  The collegiate teams played the Lakes course at 6,050 yards.

On April 24th, Boca Woods will again partner with Lynn University for a shotgun golf tournament followed by a poolside tropical buffet dinner with steel drum entertainment.  Boca Woods Members will have a chance to play with the Lynn Women’s Golf Team.  The event will benefit Boca Wood’s Chapter of PapCorps.

Boca Woods Country Club New Clubhouse Management Team

Managers, Sandy McGaughey and Jon Wilke

With a combined 50+ years of club management experience, Jon Wilke, CCM joins Sandy McGaughey, MCM, CCE, CAM as Clubhouse Manager at Boca Woods Country Club. This dynamic management team, coupled with new additions in the kitchen, will ensure that Boca Woods Members have every reason to take a renewed pride in their Club. Jon brings 17 years of Palm Beach County private club experience to the Club while Sandy has been a General Manager of a private club either in St Louis or in Palm Beach County since 1978. Sandy holds the coveted Master Club Manager designation (only 15 worldwide) while Jon is a Certified Club Manager. Whether it’s special events, member dining, and private parties or sports management, this duo will deliver top-notch experiences.

Bayside, Miami – Waterfront Shopping and Dining

The Stage at Bayside Marketplace

Bayside Marketplace is a festival marketplace in Downtown Miami, Florida. It’s in between Bayfront Park to the south end, and the American Airlines Arena to the north. As Bayside’s name suggests, it wraps along the banks of the Biscayne Bay.

The entertainment complex opened in 1987, while a major real estate boom was taking place. Instead of being planned to revitalize a specific area as its sister properties had, Bayside complements an existing marina. The shopping center was often featured on the crime drama television series, Miami Vice.

Boca Woods Welcomes New Executive Chef

Boca Woods Country Club has a new team of professionals in the kitchen and their arrival has made a difference! 
 

Certified Executive Chef, Dominick Laudia, has worked in private clubs for 25 years.  Previously, he was at Fresh Meadow in NY and at the Polo Club and Boca Rio in Boca Raton. We also welcome Chef De Cuisine, Dave Sirko, who has worked with Dominick for many years in the past. Both have won the honors of Chef Of The Year in Palm Beach County.  Sous Chef, Dave Fogel completes the team.  His experience was gained at the Bloomfield Open Hunt Club in Detroit, The Country Club of Detriot and the prestigious Country Club on Pepper Pike in Cleveland.

It is our goal to make Boca Woods our Members’ first choice for dining out!

Boca Woods Country Club Golf Course Restoration Project

Good news! A vote was passed to restore the irrigation systems on both golf courses. During installation, we will take this opportunity to repair the greens, tees and cart paths. 

The greens on both golf courses will be replaced with modern hybrid putting surfaces that will provide optimum playability. 
 
The tee boxes on both courses will be enlarged and resurfaced, greatly improving playing conditions. All platinum tees will be moved and built to regular tee standards. 
 
The cart paths will be completely restored and re-paved.  Barriers to protect against tree root incursion will be installed.

The grass on the Woods fairways is basically sound and will be rejuvenated during construction.  The Grass on the Lakes fairways will be killed off and replaced with modern, weed-resistant grass.  Efficient watering will make fairways on both golf courses even more playable.  Drainage problems will be resolved on both courses.

 
New liners will be placed in the sand bunkers and existing sand will be replaced with a high-quality sand which will stay fluffy on top while firm underneath.
 
Addressing these issues will greatly improve our golf courses and will help insure that the Boca Woods remains a most desirable golf community.
